Risk assessment of physical stress during mixed work using the example of nursing professions

  • Project number: F 2599
  • Institution: Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA)
  • Status: Ongoing Project
  • Planned end: 2029-12-31

Description:

Nursing professions have high workloads with a wide range of physical tasks and it is known that absenteeism due to illness is above average. For this reason, a precise risk assessment of this physical workload is important in order to be able to derive measures at an early stage.

The aim of the project is to objectively record the work-related physical load in nursing professions in the field and to test the extent to which the Key Indicator Methods (KIM) are suitable as existing screening methods for assessing this workload. Furthermore, an exemplary approach for the aggregation of KIM assessments of different types of workloads is to be derived on the basis of laboratory studies on physical stress and strain in selected sub-activities of nursing. The results of the project could be applied directly to the nursing professions and used for the creation of risk assessments. It also provides valuable approaches for mixed work in related professional fields.
